If Valencia plays FC Barcelona, who do you think is going to win? But what about when Valencia plays Batman? The football club and DC Comics, owner of the Batman intellectual property, might meet in court.
Spanish football club Valencia have applied to trademark a new iteration of their club’s crest, featuring a bat. DC Comics is objecting to this trademark, stating it is too similar to their Batman logo. A bat is a bat, right. Right?
On the other hand, the use of a bat in the crests, badges, and shields of the Valencian community and the surrounding areas, goes back hundreds of years. They even have a trademark of a similar version of their crest already.
It is highly doubtful whether DC Comics is going to be successful. Batman and Robin against 11 highly trained athletes. That might even be a fair fight.
