April fools

Bono said it already: I can’t believe the news today. While this sentence reflects the feeling of the all time classic Sunday Bloody Sunday, it also reflects the current status of everyone on April 1, April fools day.

This year, a good IP joke of Pocket Gamer. This site reported on a law suit started by Nike against a teenager. This teenager had drawn a picture of a pair of sneakers in the popular game Draw Something. To make the picture more clear (the word sneakers had to be guessed by the game mate), he drew the swoosh of Nike.  Clearly satisfied of his drawing, he sent a tweet with the picture through Twitter.

Nike noticed this picture and started a lawsuit on the basis of infringement of its copyright as “the use materially harms the integrity of the brand and its commercial viability theretofore predicated”.

A tall story, at least for the average IP lawyer. Clicking on the link to the legal notice makes things clear, a funny picture reveals: April fools!
