Rolls-Royce has always produced the most luxury cars in the business. The brand’s influence transcends its high-end status, even influencing the hip-hop scene.
The English car brand has now taken legal action against Atlanta rapper Royce Rizzy – formerly known as Rolls Royce Rizzy. Rolls-Royce is claiming the rapper is infringing its famous trademark.
It’s not only about the name. Rizzy’s old tour merchandise features the car brand’s ‘Double R’ logo.
Rizzy doesn’t see the problem apparently: he dropped ‘Rolls’ from his stage name over a year ago, and claims to only wear the T-shirts and not sell them.
Famous marks can claim very broad trademark protection, so Rolls-Royce can most likely successfully stop the rapper. But should they? These things can easily backfire on social media.
