Products have brands, to emphasise the quality or origin. Branding goes back the time where famers literarily branded their cows, to distinguish them from the cows of other farmers. But it seems it is done to people as well.
The Supervisory Board of the University Hospital Birmingham has suspended a surgeon “pending investigation”. A doctor found the initials of a colleague surgeon, during a routine operation of a patient who had an organ transplant.
Although the “mark of the surgeon” poses no danger to the patient’s health, “a patient is not meant to be a surgeon’s autograph book”, according to a spokeswoman for the patient.
