A hair salon in Dubai called Facelook can expect a severe letter, sent by Facebook. Although Facebook is still studying on this matter, it is clear that they do not appreciate the name and logo of this hair salon.
According to the owner the logo’s are not the same:
“For a normal guy, with a naked eye, it looks familiar. However, the color and the font is different to Facebook. ”
Although the trademarks are of course very similar, the services are entirely different. And if the local Trademark Law does not give a stronger protection for well-known trademarks it might be difficult for Facebook to act against this use.
There have been similar cases in England, such as the hair salons British Hairways, Grateful Head and Sherlock Combs. British Airways objected to the hair salon British Hairways but,we have seen this before, this action just made things worse: it gained huge media attention. Eventually, BA dropped the matter.
