Approximately a year ago, Italian luxury brand Gucci sued fashion company Guess, claiming that Guess was infringing their trademark “G”. Or in Gucci’s words the use of an interlocking “G” pattern was “part of a sophisticated and elaborate scheme to target Gucci, to create products that are similar in appearance to the most popular and best-known Gucci products.” Quite the accusation.
But the irony is in the details, you will not believe.
Gucci had to fire their legal counsel, as he was not authorized to act as a lawyer, because he was not admitted to the California bar.
What? Yes, it’s true! Gucci claims that Guess is making “fake” products, but hired a fake attorney to plea their case. Wow! Who said IP wasn’t fun?
