You remember Avatar? The 2009 movie that grossed billions of euros, telling the story of a paraplegic Marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission, where he becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home? Now someone claims to have written this script before Avatar came out.
Eric Ryder insists the Avatar-plot was stolen from his story, named “KRZ 2068”. A story he had been working on for two years.
Ryder went to court in 2011, two years after Avatar had hit the cinema’s, and – minor detail – had earned a massive amount of money.
Avatar director James Cameron – also known from Titanic – has always denied the plagiarism. However, now a US judge has ordered Cameron to hand over all versions of the screenplay for his blockbuster movie to Ryder’s lawyers.
Succes has many fathers, as we see here once again. Avatar is the most successful film ever, with global revenues of nearly $ 2.8 billion. In fact Cameron is working on a second and third. Hopefully, these movies will not resemble the “earlier movies” KRZ 2069 and KRZ 2070.
To be continued. Literally.
