Fred Perry was a famous tennis player. And now also a well known fashion brand. The distinctive element of Fred Perry is the laurel wreath, of course a well protected trademark. But obviously Fred Perry is also known for its twin tipping, as the company wants to protect the position of this twin tipping” shown around the edge of the collar and each sleeve” in the European Union.
You could argue whether the twin tipping can be monopolized as such, but a position trademark like this is always a nice to have mark especially in cases of lookalikes. The position mark seems to be trending, for example Superdry recently registered this mark:
