Nice article about the new website Logogarden.com. On this website everybody can create their own logo by picking prefab logo’s.
The big disadvantage of these sort of websites is that one can think that buying such a logo will preserve them of any IP claims. In other words, it is the big question whether such a logo will be available for use. Of course Logogarden will have excluded any liability somewhere in the sale conditions.
The article shows us that this question is a very relevant one. Several logo’s are very similar to famous trademarks such as the World Wide Fund of Nature.
Besides trademark infringement the article suggests that many logo’s are just copies of already created and existing logo’s. If this is true, a copyright claim would also be possible. Not something you had in mind when you have bought a cheap logo for less than $100!
