There is a tendency for iconic car models to return in a bright and new look , for example the Beetle, the Mini and the Fiat 500.
Whether this has been the reason for Volkswagen to apply for a three-dimensional European trademark of the familiar Volkswagen van remains to be seen, Volkswagen has already protected the Beetle and a other model as 3D trademark.
MarkMatters.com assumes that Volkswagen wants to defend this popular design by the means of a trademark in order to safeguard its rights in an easy manner. And forever.
A recent contest on Facebook in the Netherlands made clear that the Volkswagen van is still immensely popular. Fans could choose between the Beetle and the Volkswagen by a “like”. The winning model will be built by Volkswagen in a “Social Edition”. One of the features is a license plate that communicates your Facebook status to other road users! And the winner is… the Volkswagen van!
