Marc Jacobs is being sued by adidas, but fights back… against others. The fashion house has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against 66 different websites, including marcbymarcjacobsinc.com, marcjacobsmarc.com and BitcoinFashion.net.
These websites operate using Jacobs’ trademark without his consent. Moreover, Jacobs claims they are selling counterfeit goods under the Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs labels.
Jacobs fears that consumers will be confused as to the source of the goods and whether they are actually affiliated with Marc Jacobs.
It’s a difficult and time consuming case when you have so many counterparties at once. But Jacobs has to act in order to preserve his marks exclusivity. Online trademark infringements are more and more a pain in the trademark owner’s… portfolio. It is often hard to fight, but fighting against it is a must.
