Who knew rappers were into IP?
Shawn Corey Carter, better known as Jay-Z – you know, the guy who trademarked his daughters name “Blue Ivy Carter” so he can keep it exclusive – is also pretty keen on keeping his own name to himself.
Carter owns several trademark registration for his stage name Jay-Z.
Recently he has filed an opposition against the trademark application for RAY JAYZ, a brand name for clothing. If the application of the trademark does not voluntarily withdraw the trademark, JAY-Z will have to file arguments stating why the trademarks in question are similar and can cause confusion.
We’ll see who will win this battle, although we have a pretty good idea. Don’t mess with rappers. Word!
