80s rockband Van Halen have settled a lawsuit with the ex-wife of drummer Alex van Halen. Kelly van Halen has registered and has been using the name Van Halen for products like chairs, children’s blankets and interior design services.
Kelly’s former husband Alex, along with his brother Eddie van Halen, the band’s guitarist, claimed the name of her company diluted the band’s brand and created unfair competition. Kelly and Alex divorced in 1996, but she was smart enough to use the well-known name for her interior design company.
However, the law suit that was filed by the Van Halen brothers is most likely going to be dismissed, in light of an agreement that has been reached. Supposedly, Kelly van Halen has agreed not to get involved in any music-related services that might cause confusion.
In the end this matter was resolved very quickly. We guess when Van Halen says “Jump!”, you might as well jump.
