Celebrity and fashionista Kim Kardashian is not flattered by the discount store Old Navy using model Melissa Molinaro, allegedly a look-a-like, in its new commercial. Now she’s suing the store for trademark infringement.
In The Netherlands we had similar situations of celebrity look-a-likes (or their distinctive voices) being used in commercials. More often than not the the parody exception applies. Parodies are fun if done properly. But let’s be honest, does she look-a-like really look like Kim? MarkMatters.com says “No”.
