A song that closely resembles Eminem’s song ‘Lose Yourself’ was played in an ad of the Australian conservative National Party.
During the lawsuit lawyers and judges had to concentrate and listen to Eminem’s rap, which also contained some explicit lyrics. The song was played live in the courtroom by the man who wrote the characteristic opening spell. He was flown to New Zealand for the court case.
The court ruled that the used song is considered a copy of Lose Yourself, and that the National Party has to pay NZD 600.000,- (over €350.000,-), an amount that they also had to pay if they would have used the song legally.
