Made in America. Twice.

Jay Z, Kanye West and Frank Ocean are being sued for USD 3.000.000,- for copyright infringement.

Jay Z’s en West’ album Watch The Throne (2001) contains the track “Made in America”. The song features Ocean.

According to musician Joel McDonald the song is stolen from a music piece McDonald wrote in 2009, also named “Made in America”.

The rappers have already gotten used to being sued over their collaboration; in 2011 soul singer Syl Johnson sued the duo for use of a sample of one of his songs, “Different Strokes” without proper clearance in their track “The Joy”. This case was later settled. More recently, Jay- Z was sued for $600 million dollars  in damages over his applications for the Brooklyn Nets’ trademark.

So, is this copyright infringement? The court will probably have to decide. What do you think?
