Although the country is increasing the possibilities for successfully protecting intellectual property, China has been notorious for its trademark infringements. Now, it is the popular US brand “Ritz crackers” that is at the center of a trademark conflict.
This month a Chinese court heard a case filed by Intercontinental Great Brands LLC (formerly known as Kraft Foods Holdings) over the infringement of its Ritz trademark by two Chinese companies.
Allegedly, the Chinese companies were have been selling cookies under the brand name Rize with a similar typeface. A financial compensation of 5 million yuan (USD 775.230,-) was requested. No representatives for the other accused brand appeared in court. It is now up to the Chinese court.
Infringement or not? What do you think?
