Olympic infringement

Olympic torch copyright infringement? The Olympic Games in London seem long ago but will remain a burning topic, especially in view of the subject: the Olympic torch. The whole world was impressed by the originality of the torch designed by Thomas Heatherwick. His flaming flower contained petals on tall stems, each stem symbolized a nation. These stems came together during the Olympics and returned to the competing countries after the Olympics.

A nice idea but the New York design studio Atopia had some other thoughts: this torch (left) was based on more or less the same ideas as their proposal to the Olympic organization back in 2007 (right) and looks very much the same. Heatherwick Studio said that it had never seen this torch of Atopia before.

It is certainly not impossible that people can come on the same ideas, although in this respect the idea could very well have had its own life and was reborn in a different creation. Who knows!
