First there was ‘Linsanity’, the nickname of New York Knicks’ Jeremy Lin (see our earlier post).
Now there is ‘Timsanity’, the nickname of New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow.
Fans of Tebow are now seeking to register the nick name as a trademark in US. Meanwhile, Lin’s lawyers are sending cease and desist letter to other ‘Linsanity’ trademark applicant. The question is whether they will also oppose the Timsanity trademark.
A bigger question is who can be considered the rightful owner of the nicknames?
But the biggest question of all: if Tim Tebow’s fans love their idol so much, why didn’t they just give him an original nickname?
