The wheels were fake

The wheels were fakeOne year in jail. That’s what a Dutch public prosecutor has demanded from the court against a 49-year old man that had imported counterfeit road bikes wheel sets from China.

The Dutch man sold the wheels as genuine products. They were marked with famous brands like Pinarollo, FFWD and Shimano Dura-Ace.

Not only does this constitute counterfeit, it is also considered very dangerous, as the quality of the wheels are often well below par. This may result in wheels breaking, which may lead to serious accidents.

The man claimed he did not know the wheels were fake, but his wife had already stated that her husband told her many times “the wheels were fake”. The Dutch “entrepreneur” gained almost €87.000,- in profits, while the losses for the original manufacturers are much more.

Not to speak of the massive damage in reputation: the case came to light after consumers complained about the poor quality with the brand owners.

The court will render a decision in two weeks.
