C3 Entertainment, the company that has managed the Three Stooges for more than a half-century, is rather angry about a porn film called Not the Three Stooges XXX. According to C3 their trademark and other I.P. rights have been infringed. The producer of the porn film is of the opinion that he is doing nothing wrong and points to the First Amendment. His film is a parody, moreover, the title is Not the Three Stooges, so any risk of confusion is not at hand. Both parties seems to continue fighting through lawyers and the media which might result in a court action.
According the Hollywoodreport the parody theme, parodies of existing movies, seems to be a popular trend the last years with movies like Batman XXX: A Porn Parody and Superman XXX: A Porn Parody. In this respect MarkMatters.com saw some funny parody titles such as American Booty, Whore of the Rings, Missionary Position: Impossible, Sexbusters and Forrest Hump. Quite funny, but also legally interesting whether or not trademark holders should allow these parody titles and movies.
