Starbucks keeps acting against possible infringements on their world famous logo. This time in good ol’ Holland.
Espresso House, a coffee bar in the picturesque town of Doetinchem, caught the attention of the American coffee chain. Starbucks considers their logo to be confusingly similar.
Espresso House just opened last December. This January they received Starbucks’ cease and desist letter.
Sander Bussink, owner of Espresso House, is of the opinion that the logo’s are different: “The only similarity is that they are both round. Our color logo has a black to green leading edge. The Starbucks logo is totally green. Also the picture in the middle is different. We have the world map printed, Starbucks a mermaid with two tails”.
This reminds us of the legendary clip in the movie Coming to America, where Cleo McDowell owns McDowell’s, a fast food restaurant. Movie quote: Cleo McDowell: “Look…me and the McDonald’s people got this little misunderstanding. See, they’re McDonald’s…I’m McDowell’s. They got the Golden Arches, mine is the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds. ”
Although Espresso House is very confident in a good outcome, we believe this to be a ‘straight to glory’-case. Let’s see what happens.
