Twitter is a great social media platform. Twitter is not only a good way to follow interesting people but everybody has to post short messages, so long boring stories are avoided. A message on Twitter is called Tweet. Tweet is a registered trademark of Twitter.
The word Tweet is the reason that the Oxford English Dictionary has now thrown long tradition overboard. The editors would only include a new word in the dictionary when this word has existed for 10 years. In respect of the word Tweet, this was not the case.
Fortunately for Twitter Tweet is defined as “to make a posting on the social networking service Twitter”, so it remains clear that Tweet is a trademark and not a generic word. Moreover, the Oxford English Dictionary acknowledges that not only birds can tweet!
