Uber Uber Alles

Uber Uber AllesUber, the ‘taxi company’ that does not actually own any vehicles, is not amused by a Dutch car rental company’s new initiative: ‘Uber Alles’.
Dutch company KAV car rental has thought up a name for its car sharing platform ‘Uber Alles’. According to Uber this is confusingly similar to its very well-known and trademarked name.
KAV’s director is surprised by the commotion. He states that Uber Alles is merely the result of a solid brainstorm session: “We were thinking about what beautiful name we could give our new car sharing platform. When we realized that our new platform transports ‘alles’ (Dutch for ‘everything’), we thought up ‘Uber Alles’.
Responding to Uber’s claim, the KAV director is clear: “It’s not a copy. You are wrong about that. This has purely been creative inspiration. Any similarity is just a coincidence.
Besides the similarity with the ‘Uber’ trademark, the name ‘Uber Alles’ also alludes to the German national anthem (Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles), which still causes some negative sentiments in the Netherlands.
Uber is still contemplating further legal action.
