MarkMatters.com is in France right now: wandering the streets looking for trademark infringements. And what caught our eye: Zapa!
We stumbled upon a clothing store named Zapa. Not Zara, but Zapa. We noticed it earlier in 2013, but it remains remarkable. The whole look and feel of the store and the stylish name reminds us of Zara.
But it gets ‘worse’: next to the Zapa is Mango! For those of you that didn’t know: both Zara and Mango are part of the same parent company, Inditex. Even more confusion!
Can any of you French trademark attorneys out there explain what happened here? Why are these two (still) coexisting? We would love to know.
