Trademark Maintenance

A trademark registration is valid for ten years, but without active maintenance its protection may fall short in practice. Often, it is only at the time of an infringement or renewal that it becomes apparent that the registration no longer reflects the actual use of the trademark. This entails unnecessary risks. With the maintenance subscription of Knijff Trademark Attorneys, your trademark registration remains up to date and legally robust throughout its entire term.

The Knijff maintenance Subscription

With the maintenance subscription of Knijff Trademark Attorneys, your trademark is reviewed periodically and you receive an annual update on its status. Fixed services and advice relating to the registration are included in the price.

In addition, the maintenance subscription allows you to build up towards the renewal of your registration. If your trademark has been under our maintenance for the entire term, we will renew the registration for a new period of ten years without charging our professional fee for that renewal.

How does it work?

Each year, you will receive a short questionnaire from us regarding the use of your trademark. Based on your responses, we assess whether the registration still aligns with the actual use of the mark. Where necessary, we will advise you on possible adjustments: are changes required, and does the current registration still provide sufficient protection? This ensures that your trademark remains optimally protected.

What you receive


The maintenance subscription includes, among other things:

  • an annual review of the trademark registration details in the register;

  • advice on the actual use of the trademark (including scope of protection and classification);

  • our professional fees for recording changes in the trademark register, such as name changes, address changes, transfers, and limitations of goods and services;

  • renewal of the registration, being the basic professional fee for up to three classes (government fees, professional fees for additional classes, and any country surcharges for international registrations are not included).

Not included are other professional fees, disbursements to third parties such as government fees, legalisation costs, costs for the production of images or drawings, postage and fees of foreign associates.

Terms and conditions

We assume that the trademark registration is fully up to date at the start of the subscription. Upon entering into the subscription, only the remaining months of the current calendar year will be invoiced. Thereafter, unless cancelled before 1 December, you will receive an annual invoice. In the event of interim termination of the subscription, no refund will be made and the accrued discount percentage will lapse.

For each year that the subscription is in effect, a discount of 10% applies to the basic professional fee for renewal (for up to three classes). If the trademark registration has been under continuous maintenance for ten years, only the official fees will be payable upon renewal. All amounts stated apply per registration and per year, exclusive of VAT and 6% office costs. For more than ten registrations under maintenance, you will receive a discount of 15%; for more than fifty registrations, this discount is 25%.
